I’d never really been one of those “smoothie” people.

You know who I mean – the ones who pack every type of food they can think of into a blender and puree it into a drinkable pulp. Five years ago, you couldn’t get me to touch a smoothie, let alone drink one – now, well, I’m a changed woman. A smoothie-drinkin’ woman, if you will.

You can thank this super awesome Strawberry-Kale Smoothie in part for my conversion. It’s concoctions like these that make me see the value (and the tastiness) of the smoothie craze. This one is chockfull of good-for-you stuff like crunchy kale, sweet strawberries and tangy yogurt. It tastes healthy, sure, but in the most delicious way possible. Plus, you get a daily dose of fruits and veggies in one beverage. Winning! (wait, we don’t still say that, do we…)

I know what you’re thinking – kale? Really? Won’t that taste… weird? You’d think it would, but the truth is you can barely taste it. The sweetness of the frozen strawberries, banana and yogurt is enough to counteract the bitterness of raw kale, leaving you with only the leafy greens’ nutrients to enjoy. So let’s stop talking about it and make it already, shall we?

Ingredients for smoothie

First, gather your ingredients. We’ve got sweet Cascadian Farm frozen strawberries, a really ripe frozen banana, a handful of kale and some Yoplait plain yogurt to make this smoothie a reality. You’ll also need a cup of ice for this recipe.

Putting ingredients into blender

Place all the ingredients in a blender or food processor. If using a food processor, make sure you crush the ice before putting it in the bowl or you’ll be blending ‘til kingdom come. I say this from experience…

Blended smoothie

And blend to confetti-colored perfection. Add some milk or water if the smoothie is too thick; add some ice if too thin.

Strawberry-Kale smoothie, ready to drink

Pour it all into a glass (or two), and serve!

One sip of this sweet treat and any non-“smoothie” person would be hard-pressed to not be swooned over to the other side.

You might try using frozen raspberries or blueberries instead of the ice cubes. The berries are small enough to blend easily and add the crushed ice feature to your smoothier. Carolyn
