Pigs in a blanket were a classic appetizer in my childhood.
I think almost everyone knows about the tiny little franks wrapped in crescent rolls.
Pigs in a blanket are good, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes I find them lacking in the flavor department.
Luckily, with just a few extra ingredients, we can spice them up and infuse them with some delicious buffalo and blue cheese flavors.
My Buffalo in a Blanket appetizer will be a crowd pleaser at any party you take it to!
The first step to making these is preparing the chicken. I like to use Pillsbury Crescent Rolls to make them; there are 8 per package.
So try to slice your chicken into 8 strips (or 16 if you want to double it).
Add a drizzle of oil into a large pan and get it hot over medium-high heat. Then add all your chicken strips and cook them until the chicken is cooked through, about 10 minutes.
Now for the fun part. Before you add in your sauce, drain out any liquid in your pan.
Then go ahead and pour in a whole jar of your favorite buffalo sauce. Personally, I like Franks, but there are a lot of options these days. Use your favorite.
Go heavy on the sauce!
Return the pan to the heat and turn the heat down to medium. Let this cook down for about five minutes so the sauce thickens and the chicken gets infused with lots of flavor.
Meanwhile, you can prepare your crescent rolls!
After simmering for a few more minutes, the sauce should be pretty thick and sticking to the chicken.
This is perfect and ready to wrap!
Take each crescent roll triangle and mash on some blue cheese. The blue cheese and buffalo sauce is a classic flavor combination.
Once your blue cheese is on the roll, just add a chicken strip and lots of sauce to the large triangle end.
Then just roll it up! Don’t worry about it being a bit messy. It’s supposed to be messy.
Repeat this step with all of the crescent rolls and then add them all to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake these guys at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes or until the rolls are a nice golden brown color.
Let them cool for a minute before biting into them.
I can pretty much guarantee that these will fly off the plates at any party you take them to. They are spicy and flavorful and the crescent rolls are flaky and delicious.
A surefire winner!
