What kind of cake would you make for the Royal Wedding?
That’s the question we’ve been obsessing over for the past few months. After all, we wanted to be ready if Will and Kate called us for help with the Royal Wedding Cake (in case you’ve missed the media blitz, their wedding is on April 29th).
So, in true Betty Crocker Taste Seekers style we created not one, but four wedding cake designs. Our inspiration came from the traditional British phrase “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”. Check them out and vote for your favorite!
Our Something Old Cake was inspired by a vintage chandelier. The majestic tiers, soft white color palette, gilded accents and romantic use of light make this cake gorgeous and traditional. The modern twist? This cake floats above us, suspended from the ceiling.
For the Something New Cake, the wedding dessert buffet meets the traditional British topiary. This tower of desserts is an elegant white mosaic of our favorite sweets, from frosted sugar cookies to dainty petit fours to elegant-but-simple palmiers.
The Something Borrowed Cake borrows from a dessert trend on the rise – pie. Pie crust is used as a decorative and delicious fondant on the cake. It is also used to create decorative accents such as birds, a traditional English wedding cake icon.
Our Something Blue Cake design takes inspiration from the heirloom sapphire ring, as well as peacock feathers which are traditionally associated with both courtship and royalty. Inside, this “peek-a-blue” cake features layers of Royal Blue Velvet Cake, a new spin on the ever-popular Red Velvet Cake.
